BANJARBARU (TABIRkota) – Thousands of passengers at Syamsudin Noor International Airport in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Kalsel), were unable to fly due to the temporary closure of operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), which was affected by the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK).
Stephanus Millyas Wardana, General Manager (GM) of Syamsudin Noor International Airport, stated in a written release received by TABIRkota.com on Sunday (Sept 6) that the affected passengers comprised 1,187 departing passengers and 784 arriving passengers.
"The affected flights consisted of eight departures—bound for Jakarta, Semarang, and Surabaya—and six arrivals from Jakarta and Semarang," he said.
According to him, information received that morning indicated the issuance of a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) regarding the closure of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport operations until 13:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) / 14:30 WITA (Central Indonesian Time).
"This has impacted flights to and from CGK, as well as flights with connecting routes," he stated.
Due to this situation, he added, Syamsudin Noor International Airport has prepared several handling measures, such as providing parking stands for affected aircraft and offering service recovery to passengers.
"We advise service users to re-verify their flight schedules through information provided by the airlines," he added.
Service users already at Syamsudin Noor International Airport are encouraged not to hesitate to contact airport staff and follow instructions should they require assistance.
The management of Syamsudin Noor International Airport apologizes for the inconvenience caused and thanks all service users for their understanding.
