RANTAU (TABIRKOTA) – The Tapin Regency Government of South Kalimantan (Kalsel) is collaborating with the private sector to develop the local coffee industry’s potential on the international stage.
This was revealed when Tapin Regent H. Yamani and Deputy Regent H. Juanda attended an Agroforestry Expo hosted by PT Kalimantan Prima Persada (KPP) at Demakijo’s Coffee Yogyakarta on Wednesday (September 8, 2025).
According to H. Yamani, PT KPP has assisted millennial farmers in Hatungun District in developing coffee farming.
“Hatungun coffee is very popular with consumers and coffee lovers in Tapin,” he said.
He said that currently, coffee farming in Hatungun has reached 42 hectares, managed by 35 millennial farmers.
“In the future, we hope that other districts, such as Piani and Salam Babaris, can also produce coffee,” he said.
The local government, he said, will coordinate with PT KPP through the Agriculture Service regarding the distribution of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
“PT KPP will assist with everything from seedlings to maintenance, harvesting, drying, and marketing,” he said.
Meanwhile, PT KPP’s CSR Manager, Daniel Angga Sembara, stated that his office has built a coffee nursery in Burakai Village.
“The nursery in Burakai is targeted to produce 10,000 to 25,000 new seedlings,” he said.
To support post-harvest processes, he said, facilities such as drilled wells and coffee pulping machines have also been built.
“PT KPP has partnered with several coffee industry players, such as Kevion Border and Classic Bean, to open access to national and international markets,” he said.
Through collaboration with the private sector, it is hoped that Hatungun coffee can become a new economic identity, particularly within the coffee industry in Tapin. (ra)
