BARABAI (TABIRkota) — The District Government (Pemkab) of Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST), South Kalimantan (Kalsel) through the local Environment and Transportation Service (DLHP), is guiding 45 Adiwiyata Schools.
According to the Head of DLHP HST, Mursyidi through the Head of the Environmental Management Division (Kabid), Sri Sofiawarti, coaching in the form of socialization activities is a form of concern for environmental sustainability.
“The socialization contains the Adiwiyata program, to increase institutional capacity and Human Resources (HR) in schools,” he said in Barabai, the capital of HST, Friday (18/10).
Apart from that, he said, outreach was also carried out to create schools that care about and have an environmental culture.
“The education sector must be involved and play a role in environmental protection because it is relevant to regional policies that care about environmental sustainability,” he said.
Of the 45 Adiwiyata Schools, each is 16 prospective Adiwiyata Schools, 24 Regency Adiwiyata Schools, three Provincial Adiwiyata Schools, one National Adiwiyata School and one Independent Adiwiyata School.
Meanwhile, MTsN 9 HST teacher, Kaspul Anwar, said that his school was included as a candidate for Adiwiyata School.
“Our school has made efforts to maintain a clean environment, such as reforestation by planting tree seedlings, waste management, and other activities,” he said.
Apart from that, he said, MTsN 9 HST has also implemented an environmental conservation program in teaching and learning activities.
“What has been done is the school’s effort to foster environmental awareness and culture,” he said.
The 45 schools targeted for outreach activities are expected to become Adiwiyata Schools that excel in preserving the wider environment.
